With his interest in performing, composing, and teaching, Alex Vershinin is known for his artistic range within the musical world. He recently completed his undergraduate studies with Professor Fabiola Kim at the University of Michigan, where he now has a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance. He has also studied with Kurt Sassmansshaus, Tatiana Hanna, and Alicia Hui. Alex has performed numerous solo repertoire by composers such as Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, Ysaye, and Bach. Additionally, he has accumulated years of orchestral and chamber music experience through the Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestra, the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, the Chamber Music Connection, and UofM’s University Symphony Orchestra and Contemporary Directions Ensemble. Over the course of five years, Alex has gained substantial experience as a private teacher and general music educator. Although he strongly believes in establishing a solid technical foundation in his students, he takes an adaptable approach to his teaching style in order to ensure that each student will reach success and engage with their instrument as much as possible. He always factors in each student’s interests, learning style, and goals into lesson plans. It might sound cliche, but his favorite part of being a teacher is watching his students grow as musicians and people. While at UofM, Alex had eight of his own compositions premiered, including his Violin Caprice No. 1 and a multidisciplinary musical premiere. He has helped to premiere the works of numerous composers within the composition department at the University of Michigan, gaining a reputation as an avid performer and proponent of new music. In his free time, Alex enjoys reading, baking, and spending time with his cat.
